Why in news?
A comprehensive ‘safe city’ plan for women will soon be kicked off in eight cities where a robust emergency response system and police-verified public transport will come into place.

SAFE CITY PLAN
It is an initiative of the Ministry of Home Affairs in association with, Ministry of Women and Child Development and Ministry of Road Transport and highways.
The plan will cover 8 metropolitan cities – Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Lucknow and Hyderabad.
The comprehensive plan will address-
i)The Various issues around 33% reservation of women in police
ii)Installation of CCTV cameras
iii)Deployment of women in police stations
iv) Emergency response system
v)Police verified public transport
vi)Prevention of cyber crime
vii) Infrastructure issues
viii)Mapping of dark spots & crime-prone areas
ix) involvement of educational institutions
