NCRB data 2016

Why in News?

The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) recently released their annual data for all crimes documented in 2016.

It is an attached office of Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India was established in 1986 with a mandate to empower Indian Police with information technology solutions and criminal intelligence to enable them to enforce the law effectively.

 

Key Highlights-

i)IPC Crimes have increased by 0.9% Delhi UT reported the highest crime rate under IPC crimes followed by Kerala and Madhya Pradesh.

 

ii)Cases of Crime Against Women have reported an increase of 2.9% in 2016 over 2015.Delhi UT reported the highest crime against women.

 

iii)Crime Against Children has shown an increasing trend over the past 3 years with the significant increase of 13.6% in 2016.

 

iv)Atrocities/Crime Against Scheduled Castes has increased by 5.5% in 2016 .Uttar Pradesh reported the highest number of cases of atrocities against Scheduled Castes (SCs)  followed by Bihar and Rajasthan.

 

v)Atrocities/Crime Against Scheduled Tribes have increased by 4.7% in 2016 Madhya Pradesh (1,823 cases) reported the highest number of cases of atrocities against Scheduled Tribes (STs), followed by Rajasthan and Odisha.

 

vi)The incidence of Cyber Crime has shown an increasing trend by 6.3% increase in 2016. Uttar Pradesh reported the highest number of cases of Cyber Crimes followed by Maharashtra and Karnataka.

 

vii)In the 2016 report, a new table on FICN (Fake Indian Currency Notes) cases registered has also been included.
