International Geological Congress

Why in News?

V P Dimri, a Chair professor at the city-based University of Hyderabad (UoH), has been appointed as the President of the 36th International Geological Congress (IGC) 2020 by the Central Government.




The International Union of Geological Sciences is an international non-governmental organisation devoted to international cooperation in the field of geology.

IUGS is a joint partner with UNESCO for the International Geo-science Programme (IGCP) and they also participate in the Global Network of National Geo-parks (GGN).

36th IGC

The 36th IGC provides a platform for the global scientific community to discuss various thematic issues of planet Earth, like dynamics and evolution, resources for future generations, natural hazards, environmental degradation and climate change.
